Personally I do not use facebook and other social networks. And there are browsers like Firefox and extensions like Ghostery, ublock Origin, Malwarebytes that protect you quite a bit already. I also installed spyware Blaster which I find great with lists of sites to avoid

When I signed up I used fake details but whenever I tried to get in touch with anything remotely connected to me irl the system would start identifying me. And I don't even mean contacting people I knew (which would ofc call me by my real name or tag me in fotos from then on) but in all the analytical ways one could think of. 

Surveillance capitalism won't be the future but it sure will impact its course.

Today facebook banned me because I changed my name there. I've made it form Michael to Mike and replaced my old cut in half surname to full one, but FB decided to ban me. Amaing stupidity!

Facebook are always banning people. like changing a photo or a name. They may even ban you for using a VPN. I would definitely not recommend Facebook

After reading your post i do realise how lucky i am to have a private life with no access to FB or any other "social" stuff. VM's are gold in non persistent mode for all these things related and of course registration with all fake infos u can provide.

the funny one, is, facebook didnt banned buzzer and black campaign account, specially is related to US propaganda. maybe is dependent on their current donator or investor.

i think that every social media website does this. linkdin may not be that extreme cause its relatively business focused but instagram (also owned by meta) will also do that stuff. the only thing that gives me comfort is that i dont use them a lot and out of everyone whose data these guys have, im like a element in a spreadshee (weird ik).

is there restriction on what those companies can do to the data they buy from facebook?  is that how our email addresses are leaked and what so many spams come through?

Pretty sure they never delete your information at all they probably pass it to a third party before getting rid of anything and saying they don't have anything else on your personal information. Not deleting and passing the instances to a new database or not making them visible is a standard operation on IT business.
