So I was actually creating a virtual machine for Windows 10, and I tested if HWIDGEN was still working.
I created a brand new virtual machine and used the latest ISO of Windows 10 untouched from MSDN. I installed Windows 10 Education and immediately used HWIDGEN to activate the software. After it had successfully activated, I deleted the virtual hard drive, and added a new one, while keeping all other components intact. I again installed Windows 10 using the same ISO and it activated automatically without me touching anything.
So, HWIDGEN still works.
