I can kind of speak for Vietnam. I've had extended vacations there in the past and it was wonderful. It had some of the best food I've ever tried and is a bit of a tropical paradise if you stay near the beach. But the tropics also come with swarms of nasty mosquitos which are the bane of my existence.
I also have a friend who has visited Taiwan often and plans on retiring at a beach there. I'll take his word for it when he says it's an awesome place for expats.
