The Great GPU Shortage
#11
Here in my country is even worse, the only big wholesale company only has two GPUs in stock, GTX 1030 and one AMD card. And they are highly overpriced. Good thing I just bought a GPU a couple of months ago before all this fiasco. For what I've read soon we will get a lot of second hand cards to buy.

I'd signed up for in stock alerts via the nowinstock.net Discord and Telegram channels.  I respond immediately to the alert and Amazon shows the GPUs in stock with "buy now" which I select.  (this is all less than ten seconds).  Yet, Amazon subsequently brings up a "the item is no longer available from the seller you chose."  It doesn't even matter if it's 3AM 4AM etc.  I expect programmers are using the Amazon API to snipe the orders faster than any human possibly could.  Painful.

Same here, at least at the fair price they should be released (i.e. ~$350 for the 3060 or ~$450 for the 3060Ti)
I was really interested in the later.

they should just have a ban-wave mechanism where it flags ip for botting but won't ban them until right before the drops so majority of simple bots will be obstructed long enough that human buyers have chance to purchase.

Good thing I've got a decent graphics card to hold me over until I can somehow manage to upgrade. Sucks for all the new pc-builders though. The scalpers definitely are making this problem way worse

When they announced the pricing for 30 series cards, it caused the whole 20 series resale market to crash. Nobody was gonna buy 2080ti at 1200$ when you can get an RTX 3080 for 700$. Although it is sad to see such scarce availability.

The fact of the matter is, though the "GPU big shots / retailers" say that they will do what ever they can to remove bots and scalpers from the system, they just DO NOT DO MUCH. It is because sadly money matters, and as far as they see they are having a good business. Stopping scalpers/bots is more of ethics and fair-play, which for the general public like us are important things, but for the cash-loaded companies they just are not. It is a sad reality.

exactly. I've had to resort to botting amazon just to be able to grab a single GPU for my rig, but even that's not enough. The scalper problem has gotten out of hand
