CrossOver (formerly CrossOver Office) is a program that allows you to run many applications written for Microsoft Windows on GNU/Linux without having Windows installed.
CrossOver is created by CodeWeavers based on the source code of its free counterpart, Wine. At the same time, it is a commercial product. CodeWeavers developers add their own patches, as well as graphical configuration utilities. In addition, the company hires several Wine developers, and returns many of its developments to a free project.
CrossOver differs from Wine in a narrower focus: it is aimed at supporting the most popular office and other Windows applications, such as Microsoft Office of different versions, Microsoft Internet Explorer, Lotus Notes, Adobe Photoshop, Apple iTunes and others. But compatibility with these applications is carefully tested and debugged, so their work is usually more stable than in Wine.
