When will Windows 12 be released?
Windows 12 sounds better than Windows 11 24H2, but looking at the history of Windows releases, we can see that Microsoft has a habit of making mistakes after each success. So the name Windows 12 could be reserved for a later occasion.
Although there have been numerous leaks, including a Windows 12 ISO file being available on some websites at one point, it seems that Microsoft has postponed its release to the summer of 2025.
It seems that Microsoft will release Windows 11 version 24H2 in the following months (most likely in September 2024), but with this new version, Microsoft is introducing a new hardware requirement that will prevent incompatible systems from loading the OS.
Specifically, if the processor does not support the POPCNT instruction, Windows 11 version 24H2 will not load. This instruction requires processors that support SSE4.2 or SSE4a.
Windows users can check the compatibility of their processors using the CPU-Z application.

Check the instructions supported on the CPU tab to find out which instructions the processor supports. If you see SSE4.2 or SSE4A, you should have no problems with Windows 11, version 24H2.

btw I dont know if windows 11 is a success. if 11 and 10 are both a success that means Microsoft has finally run out of this pitfall (of making a mistake after a success)

I just upgraded from an i5 8400 to an i5 12600k and installed Windows 11 but I'm really hating it now, and am wondering if I should go back to Windows 10 - but wouldn't that mean that a lot of the hardware upgrades I did would not be as beneficial due to the differences between win 10 and win 11, I can't even think about when is windows 12 coming out, because this is bothering me so much.

I think they’ve moved away from those big releases. They’ll probably just keep pushing smaller updates to Windows 11 over the next few years and only release a new OS if there’s actually a big change in the underlying architecture.
What will almost definitely happen is a shift from a one-time license to a subscription. Once Windows 11 is fully established as a continuously updated product, it’ll likely become subscription-based, and at that point it doesn’t really make sense for them to release a new version if they can keep making money from the current one… at least that’s how I see it

It makes me laugh to think that there will be a Windows 12. I will always remember the day they said that Windows 10 would be the last one, then there was Windows 11, where they said again that it would be the last one, and now there's a little Windows 12 coming out.
Not to mention that Windows 11 was a disaster in terms of performance when it came out, so will Windows 12 require 32GB of RAM? X)

I barely upgraded to Windows 11 last year, when Windows 10 was EOL. Even now, I still few Windows 11 is quite buggy.

Then, above all, don't install updates on the day they are released. We'll remember the KB5074109 update, lol.
