Well encryption is good thing for workspace, when you lost your device, you didn't need worried someone will be able to read your files. But if is just being used personal space or just for download purpose, is just not worthed for extra Hussle on cpu and storage side.

Bitlocker be careful it's not syncing to OneDrive which I think it automatically does by default. It stores your private keys on the cloud, thus rendering the encryption useless against Microsoft.
Veracrypt has always been what Ive seen recommended everywhere Ive gone for years and years/
